I have two TV-2s. both needing 83s. One my TV-2s, the early one, works fine, except when
testing SOME tubes when it goes into oscillation. The other, later model TV-2, has ferrite
beads on every lead in it, but that one doesn't work....yet.

You can find 83s on eBay for around $20.00 each, but there is this:

Item # 402049984695

A solid-state replacement for the 83 which from what I can see there is the perfect solution.

I intend to buy two.

I also have a Type 739 tester (Hickock?) which uses a selenium rectifier which has gone
bad and needs replacement, but I have not yet figured out how to do that.
