Hue, That looks like the R/V Thomas G Thompson. A little history and info – this is actually the second T G Thompson. Owned by the Navy, it’s hull designation is AGOR-23, oceanographic research ship. It is managed and crewed by the Univ of Washington.
The first T G Thompson, AGOR-9, KGWT, was built in 1963 or 64, and was one of our “customers” for a month or so in the Mediterranean when I was a CW op at NGR. It was apparently on loan from UW to MIT Woods Hole MA, doing bottom survey work for the Navy. Some of us had the pleasure of visiting the first one when it was docked in Piraeus Greece. We handled a lot of traffic to and from the ship. Today it’s all satellite….
I blew that photo up and it is indeed the TGT.

I thought, the list mail is not exactly inundating us, why don't I forward this recent photo of NOAA ocean research ship heading out from
Newport Oregon harbor. South jetty behind ship; I was on north jetty. "Bar crossing" at end of channel is often restricted by ship length,
depending on how high the swells are there. Coast guard has bar crossing updates about every hour on channel 22 VHF. In February 2018
the crew of 3 of a fishing boat were lost there in a crossing attempt during a storm. I read this had occurred at least once else in modern
history, I think in mid 1960s.
Good place for walking. I think it lowers your BP about 15 points just to walk out here on a sunny day.
