Hi All

Many years ago, I acquired a BC-224-B project radio with
the idea of restoring it. But then later on, I found a better
condition one. So this one is taking space, and I'd like to
find it a home. This is one of the earlier units that did
not have the 200 to 500kc band.

I spent some time over the last week going through my
keeper, and fired this one up to evaluate it.

It needs cosmetic and electrical help, but it doesn't
deserve to be scrapped.

The following is what I've discovered in a hour or two
of looking at it, but don't be surprised if you uncover
other problems.

PROS

Front panel is unhacked
Wiring harness is about 90% untouched
Circuitry is mostly original.
Hears sort of OK on most bands

CONS

Front panel needs repainting. But note,
the early BC-224 and BC-348 used engraved
lettering, not the raised lettering seen on
the later models.

A couple of the trimmer caps have the
dreaded "cracked collar" syndrome, so the
rf units will have to be pulled and the
caps repaired or replaced. This is what
kills a couple of the bands.

The 41 output tube has been replaced with
a 6K6.

A previous owner rewired the filaments to
6V, but I put it back to 12V

There is a hole punched in the IF deck for
a 9 pin miniature tube. When I got it, there
was a 12AX7 there, but it wasn't wired. I removed
the socket, but the hole is still there.

On the bands that do work, the radio hears atmospheric
noise, but overall gain is about half of my good one.

The cabinet has had its holes filled and repainted, but
the wrinkle came out a bit coarser than the original, but
I don't think it is too bad.

No dynamotor.

I can provide a shock mount, with plug, but that ain't
gonna be free, I'm thinking 30 bucks. Priority given to
someone wanting the receiver also.

Any takers? Price of shipping from central Georgia
will be a definite consideration.
