Re Dave's comments on BC-474: many years back I saw a photo in, must have been CQ magazine,
of a missionary operating a BC-1306, I mean the whole show, cranking the gen too while operating 
the radio. But as I wrote this, I realized he could not have tuned up the transmitter and cranked the
radio too. The only handcranked rec-trans I have ever tried that can be completely operated by one
person would be the transistorized lifeboat radios. These have voice mode, A3, on 2182 kHz. Doing
CW while cranking would be another level of coordination, maybe like finger style guitar while singing.
