My first RAK, I had to build a power supply for it, and combined the PS with an audio amp. I used a 5651, an 87 volt regulator for the 90 volt line, as I had no VR90 in the junk box. Maybe with a full test of the receiver with 90 volts supplied by the PS or not, since R115 in the detector is feeding B+ into that 90 volt line and you read about that with no 90 volt PS connection, you could see exactly what regulated 90 is actually doing. My RAL I had the proper AC supply which cleaned up nicely and had the proper rectifier and ballast, but recently traded that as part of a deal for an ART13. All the 1uf caps were bad in that RAL. Speaking of bad caps, I just finished a TCS receiver where every coupling cap was bad, all but one fixed value cap in the HFO section. and all low volts bypass cap, and about 6 resistors, but all the HV bypass can caps were good. Spec. sens is 15uv, after this work, mine is running about 1uv and I haven't aligned it yet.
