It was given or traded (I've forgotten which) by one of my Elmers back in 1957 or 1958. It
came complete with the original military power supply and two manuals. It was NIB.

Well, I although I have no idea about that, I DO know that I have found manufacturing faults
in at least one "ARC-5" receiver, even at this late date.
A year or two ago, I found a no-solder joint in an R-24/ARC-5 receiver in the HFO coil area.
It had even been painted with that red paint they put on it when it had been checked, so it
had passed inspection and was delivered to the using agency.
But the HFO was very intermittant, and finally I got serious about fixing it, eventually dug
into the HFO coil in that coil-box in the front of the receiver, and found that no-solder joint.
This is some 70+ years after it was built.
And that is not the only one I have found either.

I don't see it that way. I see it as pretty much the usual human condition: we all make
mistakes, especially when we are tired or otherwise distracted.
Mistakes are easy: perfection is hard.
