In my youthful SWL days, I listened a lot to shortwave, less to the AM broadcast band, less to the LF band 200 - 400 kHz, and less yet to VLF.
But for some reason, I didn't realize all that was going on at the same time in the maritime MF band, circa 500 kHz. And I even lived in a port city,
with shore stations working here. Somehow I didn't realize that band was even there. I wish now I'd copied more there.
One of those magazine annuals like "Communications Handbook" had a short article, with a title like "A Day in the Life of 600 Meters". It transcribed
some of the traffic heard thereabouts and also "translated it to English". Some of the books I have been reading lately, like "Sparks At Sea" and "QTC"
have given me a good sense of what that traffic was like.
