Looks like good old-fashioned ham radio tinkering!  :-)It could be made sturdier/permanent by slipping a little bit of plastic tubing over where the original lamp glass was & filling with epoxy.

Design by Mickey Mouse Labs. I do not think the junctions actually soldered, but the lamp leads themselves took up solder and that apparently cinches the contact. Truthfully, I was surprised that the thing showed continuity. The assembly is kinda fragile and you insert it in the bulb socket using needle nose to grasp the edge of the bayonet base. Ditto for removing it and there will be no difficulty whatsoever removing it. Looking at it now, I am thinking the Maglite bulb could be a little close to the base, for better light source positioning. I will think about that. But as you can see from my previous photo, this jig provides entirely satisfactory lighting. ( The previous photo shows lamp powered by alligator clip lead, thus front panel pushbutton is not used. ) This is not the end of the trail. LEDs are smarter and I need to try that path next. -Hue      ______________________________________________________________
