[Milsurplus] Light on the GRC-9 receiver

Here is a little experiment I did with the GRC-9 receiver.
I used a small, screw base, 1.25 volt rated incandescent bulb. This kind you used to see in the "pocket flashlights" or "mini - flashlights" from the 1950s thru 1980s, that used
a single AA cell, for example.
The GRC-9 of course, uses a bayonet socket bulb that gives a hint of light.
There are 2 ways you MAY be able to make the screw base bulb fit. If you have a bayonet socket in open air, you can bend one of the top "lips" in slightly. This engages with
the threads of the screw base bulb and it screws in, less or more. But in the GRC-9, there's really no room to work. You can also very slightly bend one or both of the lips in very
slightly, and you get a friction fit of the screw base bulb.
With this bulb inserted, it's a new dawn: you get all the light you'd ever want coming out that little window. Perfect.
BUT, there are a couple drawbacks, maybe. This bulb is only rated for 100 hours life. And it can be a bitch to get back out. You might need the bulb puller to extract it, or
real skinny fingers.
As I say, this was an experiment, but I had to try it.
I don't know about changing the actual bulb socket, that might require a good bit of work, due to the very restricted space as it is.
Maybe in the next days, when I have a playground recess period, I'll try the LED, but that will digging out my B+ supply. And compare the light levels.
