To your list I would add "The Invention That Changed The World" by
Robert Buderi. Touchstone Books, published by Simon & Shuster 1997. This
has been one of my favorite books on technology. Mr. Buderi covers the
early development of RADAR on both sides of the Atlantic. He describes
its use in WW2, and then covers other technological developments that
continued after the war, such as early warning radars of the 50's and
60's and then the spillover into radio astronomy as well.

The subtitle reads: "How a small group of radar pioneers won the Second
World War and launched a technological revolution"

He goes into pretty good detail on the development and techniques used.
It is a nice balance between easy readability and covering the important
aspects of the discoveries and their application to RADAR.  I highly
recommend this book.  I have made a point to find "Instruments of
Darkness" I had not heard of that title. I'll bet I'll love that one too!
