Yes!  Once-upon-a-time I worked on a Yaesu Ftdx500 which didn't work in 
the factory and they shipped it anyway.  One of the problems was a 
crystal oscillator which only worked sometime and weakly.  I added two 
insulated wires about 1.5 inches long on the grid and plate, and it 
worked like a champ.  I intended to twist them but it wasn't necessary.
