Parallel capacitance lowers the frequency: series capacitance raises the frequency, but it 
takes about 10X the amount of capacitance in series, that it does for parallel.

As I suggested, connecting a SMALL capacitance, a "gimmick" will suffice, between the grid 
and plate of the oscillator tube will significantly enhance its ability to oscillate with sluggish 
crystals.

FYI, the "Paraset", which uses a 6V6, does that.
