One last note on the RAK/RAL pair:  In the RAK there is enough RF on the 
plate of the detector to drive a frequency counter.  A small mica and a 
short length of coax to the counter and you have direct frequency 
readout.  Really cool.  In the RAL not so much due to better bypassing.  
At the bottom of the tuning range it worked with regeneration turned 
insanely high, but not worth the trouble.
