I may have a grey RBB out in the pile of RBxx radios.

I ask, why is it desirable to improve the high end audio response of the RAL
receiver ? Lacking AVC, it's not what you'd think of as the most practical
HF broadcast
listening receiver.
Also, some years back on this forum I read about an RAL that had been
converted ( sorry, for that word ) with FETs replacing vac tubes..would like
opinions, would such a project be
sacrilegious? There will come a time maybe when such considerations HAVE to
be considered, as the only tubes to remain in production, I think, will be
ones
particularly for the audio market.
---------------
While refurbing the RAL, I dug-out 10 untested 6D6 tubes, since the
Detector tube was flat. 4 of 10 were bad; three with low emission
and one with gas.
Is it just "luck of the draw," or are a large percentage of tubes
testing as "bad" than did where we were younger? Are
they "gassing-out" on us? Thoughts?

Visions of a grey RAK, grey RAL to go next to my
sweet grey RBC and the grey RBB that's waiting for
me to find it and rescue it ;-) :-D
