[Milsurplus] Equipment Identification

Is there a Mil Spec for the Reference Designators of the Hardware Items in 
electronic equipment such as knobs, dials, gears, pulleys, springs, shields, 
windows, bezels, grills, etc.?

Reference designators for items such as resistors, capacitors, tubes, etc. 
come up quickly on Google, and I assume the disignator for common items such 
as nuts, bolts, washers, spacers, etc. is the letter H, but I haven't had 
any luck with the other hardware items mentioned above.  Help anyone?
