Robert,

Perhaps it was mentioned before, but "M" stood for "Morgue," and was the 
internal collection at Aircraft Radio Corp.  (The Morgue is what 
newspapers call their collection of back issues.)  I'll bet there's a 
story as to how these radios escaped or were saved from the dumpster.
