Hi Ralph –

Yes, the Gibson Girl and the WS 19 set are both radioactive. So are some of the meters on the R-390A receivers and many others. I have most of these radios totally complete here and no problems. There are a lot of papers out there on the actual effect of the radioactivity from these radios, and as I recall they all conclude that it is minimal. From what I recall, the thing to be careful of is to make sure none of the stuff gets scraped off and ingested. 73 – Mike

I have previously read of radioactivity in dials of the Gibson Girl. How toxic are thee dials? Are they usually removed when selling? I had one previously and did remove the dials and disposed of them as hazardous waste. The question has risen again.

What about the front panel of the Wireless set No. 19? It sure glows in the dark, albeit dimly since manufactured.
Are the 19 set panels to be considered "handle with care?
Thanks
Ralph
