Hi Ralph –
Yes, the Gibson Girl and the WS 19 set are both radioactive…
----------------------
Former nuke worker here.
There is no significant danger from the radium coatings as long as
they are intact- not peeling or flaking. The problem comes with
ingestion of particulates.
To be very safe, use a fixative – Testor’s model gloss clear-coat paint works well-
to coat the surfaces and “fix” any particulates to the panel.
Do not open sealed meters with Radium coatings.
Absolutely do not attempt to remove the Radium coating.
You will get it all over and generate radio-active waste which
is illegal for you to throw in the trash.
Do not ask your local Hazmat authorities what to do.
You will hear their feet come down off the desk and “WHUMP”
onto the floor. If you tell them you have anything radioactive,
you can expect a crew to show up and survey your place top-to-
bottom, confiscating all kinds of stuff and maybe even fining you.
