[Milsurplus] SC-901X question

No, I mean precursor in the actual sense.  The SC-901 (or perhaps the SC-900 but I've never seen that manual) came first, the R-1051 second and the rest of the family as needed.  AFAIK, the RF Tuner and Frequency Synthesizer in the R-1051 are capable of supporting the transceiver function.  Both can be installed in either the R-1051 or the WRC-1 according to NAVSHIPS 0967-034-2000.Jim I wonder why people argue over the 10% of their differences and ignore the 90% they agree on?

Subject: Re: [Milsurplus] SC-901X question  The SC-901 is a receiver-exciter and the precursor to the R-1051; there are two tubes in the RF Tuner.    Rumor has that it was designed for use in ICBM missile silos by Stromberg-Carlson, but I think it was actually a commercial product.  S-C was a division of General Dynamics starting around 1955.  Don't know about the development of the SC-901 but it appears to have been designed around the time silicon transistors were really taking off.  Except for the RF Tuner, everything else in it is solid state.  AFAIK, none of the modules are compatible with the R-1051 and perhaps not with any other radios in the G-D "family".  I have one but some of the modules have been hacked so there is little incentive for me to try to get it running.  Although it does a good job of keeping the metal storage shelves on the ground.Jim  ______________________________________________________________
