Every so often some posters on here refer to their database.
I've been working on a database of equipment, components, etc.
for some time now and in the process of a complete review of
what I've been doing. Currently, I have about 17,500 items
listed.
There's the old old, Signal Corps system, the Navy Contractor
system, the joint army/navy system, and the Jetds system.
If you care to share, I wonder how others have broken down
the various categories of equipment.
Currently, I have Equipment, Component, Subcomponent,
Assembly, Group, System, Center, Central. I also have Test Equipment,
Power Supplies, Used With But Not Part Of, and a bunch of
other stuff, but the basic breakdown is what I'm trying to
figure out.
I'm thinking of totally revising my database and basing it on
the JETDS nomenclature, but it has changed over time, and
some of the designations don't work well with WWII or
older equipment.
New equipment doesn't always seem to fit neatly in the
older system, and the old equipment doesn't seem to
fit in the newer system.
Any suggestions appreciated.
