My first job out of the US Army in 1968 was with Motorola in Schaumburg. I
was a tech on the Motrac line and my job was to power up the freshly
assembled units and make sure each one worked to spec. The last test was to
put the unit on a dummy load with a Bird 43 wattmeter, key the mike and
then beat on it with a rubber mallet, looking for any power output change
that would signal a problem, perhaps an intermittent connection. Needless
to say I enjoyed that part of the test. I've never had another job in
electronics where a good hammering on the product was encouraged.

I miss those days.
