Peter and all:
My good friends have a son who got his degrees ( Electrical & Mechanical Engineering ) from RIT. He was always interested in everything "old" as a child and young teen, constantly dragging antique and cool -looking items home from a nearby "landfill". His interest as a teen turned to robotics and his team made it to the MIT robotics competition. ( Not bad for a small town high school in Arkansas ) He was a fan of "steampunk". As I watched him grow, I always gifted him with some old & interesting electronics item. I thought surely he would be interested in ham radio, once he got his face out of the computer games. Not so. I couldn't get him to drive the 20 miles or so to the AWA museum in the 5 years he spent at RIT.
So, what is it about "radio" that sparks interest in the younger generation ? It wasn't "new" when most of us got into it.
