Going thru my old stuff I hadn't looked at in years, actual years, I found a stack of Motorola Motrac radio manuals.
Years ago, I was thinking these might actually be usable on 2 meters. But time has moved on at a quick pace, and
now, who would want to bother ? And they're not really a collectible item either, unlike say for example, maybe
a Wilson or such early 2 meter radios. Looking at the schematic, I see not a lot of parts to harvest. There is a DC to
400 DC inverter, I suppose, but how often are people really looking for that. I noticed that the receivers have a
'Permakay' 455 kHz LC filter which supposedly lasts the "life of the radio" and has no adjustments whatever. I don't
know what the "life of the radio" means in "actual years". I think what I'm going to do is just log the model number
that indicates the narrower Permakay filter, which might actually be useful for general coverage receiver of some
kind ( or maybe not ) just in case one of these radios shows up on my doorstep, and find a home to donate the manuals
to. Another "project" off the books finally, and that is a good thing. Kind of sad, but then, these things were just a
tool, not a work of high art.
