I'm amazed at how advanced the Japanese transistor technology was during
WW2! Bell Labs (Shockley, et al...)must have pirated it from the Japanese
before announcing it in 1947.

Yes, they were allies in 1066.  The Germans had the Japanese label it in 
modern English to throw off the Orcadians.
