[Milsurplus] [ARC5] Unknown Antenna

Thanks to all who answered my enquiry on the unknown antenna. It looks like this antenna's base could be used with many different rod antennas of different lengths to match frequency range, and possibly was. However, this one has the nomenclature embossed under its base with very shallow lettering that is difficult to read in ordinary light. Upon closer examination with a magnifying glass and angled light it reads AS-32 APX-1. Note 32, not 82 as previously mentioned.

I could not find much info on the APX-1, except for this photo:

That's the third antenna that looked like the AT-5 and AT-8, resonant somewhere around 170 MHz I believe, for a JAN-nomenclatured slightly modified version of tbe SCR-595-A Mark III IFF set.

I now see in my own enlarged photo what I couldn't see on the real thing. On the bottom flange of the base its says AS-82 / APX-1. So I guess its for an IFF transponder. Will have to look up that. Mike, W6MAB

I would say drone control, or early IFF, the base looks like a typical WWII whip base that was used for those purposes. Maybe Television transmitter for RAZON/ AZON.

Does anyone recognize this antenna and know what it was used for?

There are no markings on any part of this antenna. The yellow mast is 15-1/2 inches long and screws onto a 1/4-28 stud in the base.

The base has a standard UHF connector.

Maybe target drone or something like that? Mike W6MAB
