Thanks, Neil, for the lead !
I wanted to know more and found descriptions at http://www.nzvrs.pl.net/ccc/941SWB/941swb%20item.pdf
I also hoped to be able to find a model or name for these receivers.
There were apparently two manufacturing series, 1938 and 1941-1942.
The receivers are identified by series . So in a summary of 'HRO copies' you would say something like,
"N.Z. receivers model series 938SWB and 941SWB".
Apparently, this approximately is based on, "9 valves + year of series + Short Wave Band".
If the receiver was a special one with MF coils also, this counted as a different band and the nameplate would read,
"941SWB1". The total production is reckoned at <= 200. Coils sets bore the radio's serial number - I think this is
different from other countries' HROs ? No crystal filter - "some" receivers built with variable selectivity by switched
IF transformer link coupling.
Must have been expensive to produce such quality work in such low numbers. But - if you can't get the supplies
in wartime, you have to do what you can.
Possibly more than you wanted to know about this receiver, but I'm partially posting this so I can save the brief
info in my archive.
