I wanted to see what this 'dual frequency VFO' was about so I looked at the block diagram. It is interesting that the VFO
frequency changed for transmit to 1/2 the output frequency. I suppose that eliminated problems in the final and also
stabilized the set.
Another radio which used a single VFO came to mind. This is the German ' Fusprech ' series of 3 total, I think, operating
in various 1 MHz slices of the 24 ~ 35 MHz range; a voice radio for scout vehicles. About the size and power of a 1950s
CB. For receive, the VFO was offset up in frequency by shunting an inductor across the tuned circuit. There was a CQ magazine
article about this radio, I think mid 1990s. There is also a small photo in the Feb. '44 Radio News but no description.
Seeing the docs for the WS38 reminded me, years ago, Tony Grogan gave me one. But I really wasn't thrilled with the overall
format, plus the difficulty of obtaining the rest of the kit over here, so I sent it back to him. I didn't remember that until now
reading again about the 38 Set and thinking oh, yeah, that's what it was.
