[Milsurplus] AN/FMQ-1 questions

I would like to learn some more about this system. 
The receiver is a superregen. Is it manufactured by National ? If so - was it also sold generally, and if so, under what model name ?
Then the SCR-658 was a frequency converter for the AMT-2 radiosonde down to the frequency range for the FMQ-1 ? 
Anyone have an FMQ-1 and comment on operation ? I do not think I want to have one....at least don't think so, although it could
I suppose be tuned up to the FM BC band....
