HuePer WB6NVH, circa February,2010:"SC-901 and the 900 series as a whole were the prototypes (of the R-1051 family of radios by General Dynamics) designed around 1961 by Stromberg Carlson. They were typically installed in ICBM silos and you will see them in some of the photo collections on the web. For example, that silo south of Tucson, Arizona, now a museum, still has them in place. Presumably SC- means Stromberg Carlson."Geoff
According to Wikipedia, SC was bought by General Dynamics in 1955. Interesting to note that the SC-901 was designed only a few years after the ARC-58 / KWT-6 / URC-32 family of radios went into production.
Not really aware of any overheating issues other then the extra heat produced by the regulated power supply when the power transformer tap is not properly set. Same can be said of the FRR-21, 22, 23 and SRR-11, 12, 13, all of which run much cooler when the power transformer tap is adjusted to the actual line voltage. The latter will run even cooler when the 400 cycle power transformer tap is also used. From my measurements, the 6.3 vac filament are at just above the minimum spec of 5.8 vac when the line voltage is 123 vac.Jim

What to do for a manual? Google finds nothing. 2. Is it worth trying to get working? ( Yes, I have in the past read about the overheating failures. ) thanks- Hue ______________________________________________________________
