The 3S4 is the modulator, right ? So you wouldn't want to remove that tube.
I think I would try to squeeze in an additional transformer. In transistor specd
transformers you can get really small sizes. Just my thinking.

I have a couple MABs in here and I'd been fantasizing solid stating them. I know,
HORRORs, but the ground rule would be plug-ins, not big wiring hacks. I recall
on Epay years back someone sold a transistored BC-611, said it worked well,
but I kind of dismissed that guy's work as he used only JFETs, solid state
equivalents of triodes, which I thought was mucho unsophisticated. I have been
puzzling over whether a simple detector driven AVC to a MOSFET IF and MOSFET
self oscillating mixer would deliver realistic and usable AVC control. Also what
RF output device to use. I reckon another basic starting point would be that it
wouldn't necessarily have to have the same RF power input as the original; could
live with less. No doubt this daydream will remain just that. My MABs do not
have the vibrator supply. They were briefly used way back when by Explorer
Scouts in the Utah desert, using battery stacks, then packed away. I just do not
care for the idea of using a stack of batteries plus the factor of a failure-prone
active device.
