Hue: When I can access the FCC ULS again I will search on these two callsigns and see what I see.

Subject: [Glowbugs] Ideas on Northern Radio ?
At Puyallup hamfest I sold a Northern Radio 2-deck set ( 602 receiver, 0.5 – 18 MHz with 509 series transmitter, around
60 watts AM, 1.5 – 10 MHz or so. ) I hadn't done any work to try to determine its provenance; I just pulled it from storage
and took to hamfest. The buyer told me it has marking "Wood River", which is a river in southern Oregon, a recreational
area and a source of irrigation. The radio also bears call letters " KXE48 " and has channels 2430, 3201, 3215, 3230, and 3411
kHz. Those don't tally with my circa 1940 list of Forest Service freqs, but they may have changed by the mid 1950s of this
radio. The freqs ARE in the right area of the band, except for maybe 2430. I looked at another F.S. radio, a small portable,
and its call letters are KOH963 unit 24. Three letters + 3 numbers. I don't know if 3 letters + 2 numbers means a base
station ?
I realize this is a shot in the dark. Does someone maybe recognize these freqs as mid 1950s Forest Service or Army Corps
of Engineers or some state agency ? Why this many channels to a fixed base station ? The radio weighs around 60 lbs. and
is 12 volt powered. I reckon with around 60 watts input the reliable range would be what, around 40 non-ham use miles ?
The wide tunable receiver range, 0.5 – 18 MHz, was an option available in addition to the fixed freq channels.
