[Milsurplus] AN/ARC-8 In a B-24

I don't know of a single USAAF bomber that ever transitioned to the
AN/ART-13 transmitter, with the exception of the B-29.  There is a form
factor space problem between the two, and the original BC-375 destined
for the B-29 was supplanted by the ART-13 only because there was
sufficient horizontal distance at right angles from the wall to
accommodate the deeper Collins transmitter without significant sheet
metal and rearrangement impacts.  Unfortunately, the unintended
consequences were transmitter dials that were too low to easily read or
adjust in a darkened cockpit, and much radio operator grousing ensued.
That irritation was reflected in a recommendation for transmitter
relocation in the "Operational Suitability of the Radio Equipment in the
B-29 Airplane", a report issued in 23 Feb 1945.  They never did it
though, at least until upgrades and new aircraft (like the B-50) arrived
after the war.
