Thanks Bruce, got it going on Band 1!

*Check to see the oscillator is running on band 1. If it is running, see
if it is on frequency. I have had a part of the clip at the top of the
coil that holds the threaded stem of the slug break free and fall down
on top of the slug. That will either stop the oscillator or send it so
far off frequency you won't receive anything. I discovered this when my
GRR-5 worked fine with the receiver chassis upside down on the bench.
Put it back in the case and one band died. If the oscillator is running
at the correct frequency, touch a piece of wire several feet long to the
signal grid of the converter tube. If you can receive something and can
tune the receiver to different frequencies, then start working back
toward the antenna through the RF amplifiers until you find the problem.
The only condensers that can kill a band are those associated with the
coils for the band in question. An open or shorted coil can kill a band,
as well as bad or broken contacts on the band switch sections. As for
tubes- they all look very good. Battery filament tubes have the greatest
difficulty with higher frequency bands, if they work fine at 15MC., they
are more than up to the job at 1.5MC
