Hi
In some cases it’s simply a reflection on a world that does not try to repair things.
It can be something as simple as a loose connector. It all can be a lighting strike
victim with no economical way to repair. One would *guess* that the loose connector
variants get fixed by somebody in the chain. The lighting victims just keep getting
re-sold again and again and again.
What will eventually get most of these rigs are the displays. No matter what the
technology, they simply do not last forever. Once they wear out *and* the supply
of replacements gets used up …. end of the road. Indeed somebody *might* come
up with some sort of kit for this or that radio. You *could* be one of the luck ones.
For most of them, it’s lights out. Is that a 20 year sort of thing or a 50 year issue?
I’d bet we’ll find out ….
