[Milsurplus] Converted RU receiver, Ebay

Here's an interesting conversion of an RU receiver. It didn't turn out absolutely perfect as the Vernier drive pokes just a bit above the top surface
of the receiver.
I have to wonder why the builder used an RU instead of, frankly, a more competent base receiver. I suppose to get wide freq coverage via the plugin
coils. I still have to wonder, though, did he think to try out the receiver before he converted it? That might have been illuminating. I speculate, but
maybe his results discouraged him from finishing the project by modifying the GF. Just speculating.
It does appeal to me, and if the thing was realistically priced at around 1/5 of this, I might or might not be tempted to bite.
In looking just now at a page of ex military radios, I see the common BIN price looks around 10x the realistic value. -H
