That's really cool!
I wonder if that multi-turn band-switch knob moves a sliding coil
assembly /a la/ the National NC-100 series.
There was a point in time where the existing rotary switches weren't
considered usable for band switching. This was the case with the Navy
RAB <http://www.skywaves.ar88.net/commrx/RCA/RAB/RAB.html> from about
1931. I believe the RAB was the Navy's first superhet, but it weighed
455 pounds, desk included.
