Possibly I will eventually investigate the book, but for now, too much in the in-basket already.
But, can you give me the short story on how the plane crashed ? Did it go into a mountain ?
I am surprised no radio contact. I would think they would hear a base on the VHF ground-air channel, and if their VHF was out, or vice versa, they could
revert to HF ? So we'll never really know.

I should add that there is a radio angle to this story. None of the USAF or RAF bases in Iceland was able to make radio contact with this plane, and that was another reason for the crash. Since the plane was destroyed in the crash, no one knows if the transmitter failed or if the radio operator was using incorrect frequencies. Just an all-around sad story.
