[Milsurplus] Insist on the Hoffman brand !

When I referred to the more nearly square cornered and externally smooth
Avco pieces, I was referring to the radio cases and CW-109/GRC-9 Covers, not
to the receiver and transmitter front panels. If the front panels are a
little different, I never noticed that.

All of the BC-1306's and AFAIK all of the original RT-77 and RT-77A cases
and covers have externally visible stiffener areas stamped into the sheet
metal. The Avco RT-77,A cases and covers have internal reinforcing and the
exterior is smooth or flat. All of the original receivers, transmitters and
inter-connecting cables will fit either one.

I once had an RT-77A made on a 1955 Order. It was my keeper until it was
stolen. All of the Avco parts were made sometime after 1964. They all show
an Order # that is very long and has no date embedded in it as the earlier
Signal Corps Order Numbers did.

When you're shopping for a new '51 model, insist on Hoffman. You can't go
wrong ! Tell 'em Hue sent you !

Unretouched photos:

Hoffman face with "squared off" corners; different style antenna inductance
control in upper right, with different style lock device.

Hoffman dial with non magnifying dial window.

Teleking dial with magnifier window.
I know it's hard to tell definitively from the photos, but -the Hoffman dial
is easier to read, particularly so as your sightline moves away from

the window centerline.

I much prefer the non-magnifier window. It is brighter, easier to read, and
the numbers "look better".

The nameplate on the equipment housing is Hoffman labeled. This squared-off
case is not an Avco rebuild !
