For all who are confused as to the Avionics on the P3A aircraft after my
posting one of several R648/ARR41 radios from the P3A craft available,
please refer to the link above.
The official info is right there.
And, if you want to look a bit further, on the site, the P2V(xx) is also
listed, and one will note that the ARR15 receiver with ART13 (Navy ATC) was
the primary HF radio.
There were doubtfully any ARC38 ever installed in the P2, maybe an ARC 38A,
however it was rather limited in tuning capability, hence, due to its age,
and the introduction by
Collins of the 618T series of HF transceivers, that would have been the
upgrade of choice.
The P2s were still in service in the 60's, having flown in the two turning
two burning later craft in 64/65. Noisy and cramped.
Still have some R648ARR 41 and mounts available.
One will be donated to the P3A in Moffet.
