I found a TBY-4 in my stash, very nice condx BUT one of the lower strap D ring holders is ripped out.
Any recommendations on who could and would do a heavy duty sewing repair ?
Maybe I could give up on heavy boatanchors and take up sewing.
The bag for this radio was surprisingly soft and supple. It does not have the heavy stiff feel of other TBY
bags I have seen. It does have a mottled appearance, and I kind of wonder if someone along the line
washed it somehow.
BTW, I do not consider the TBY bag well designed for long life. Long life may have been optional and in
fact unusual, of course, in its main role. When you look at the way the top straps connect to the bag
proper, you see that the physics of the connection are such that weight constantly stresses to the
connection, wanting to tear it away. Picture a "Y". The left segment is the bag; the right segment is
the weight bearing strap; and the vertical segment at the bottom is the direction of the weight. The
pull on the carry strap will tend to pull it away from the sewed joint at the "junction" of all 3 vectors
in this figure. Poor design, I think.
