OK. I remember that exchange with David. As I remember it, the 6C4 simply wouldn't put out
enough power. The 6C4 was used by many receiver manufacturers, (Hammarlund and
Hallicrafters for two) as the HFO, but that use needs very little output power. 1 to 2 volts RF
usually is enough.
A triode-connected 6AQ5 should be able to output quite a bit of power for its size.
Perhaps we could revisit this issue and come up with a better sub for the original tube.
I am certain that there is at least one other triode, or triode-connected tube, which would
provide the necessary drive-level to the final, yet be stable too.
As I can, I'll look into that.
I'll begin by looking back to David's experiments with that oscillator.
