A short note with some more puzzlements about the U.S. radio AN/TRC-10.
Reading more of the paper from Pilot Radio Co. from April 13-17, 1945 I note:
Suggestions made include changing transmitter band from 2-5 and 5-12 MHz to 2-6 and 6-12 MHz.
Nameplate to be actually a separate piece and not just painted on front panel. Operating instruction
sheet to be fixed to inside surface of front cover. Specifications to numerous mechanical parts and fittings
as well as some component changes. ( Like C-202 i recall, suggested change to 'bathtub' capacitor. )
However, in the TRC-10s we have seen, such changes were NOT implemented, so what happened ?
The number out there, albeit small, are not "pre production models". Was there really that much of
a rush, and why ? The radio is clearly a guerilla, behind enemy lines type thing, but where in mid 1945
would such be needed ? The Philippines had been invaded and the heyday of the Philippine guerilla was
well past. A land invasion of Japan wouldn't have required such a radio. China ? Or - maybe somehow
connected to rescue missions, raids to free Allied POWs in farflung Japanese camps, where they were
threatened with massacre as Japan's fortune declined ?
