IMHO, rather than speculate,  suggest you contact the person who has

the authority to decide this issue (whomever that might be), and ask

her/him what is required to save the equipment?.  If the requirements 

can be met, one might be able to get the entire lot for a song, recover

those items for which there are willing homes and, with regret for 

the necessity thereof, send the rest to recycle.

The first step is to establish how it can be done, 

then plan how to do it.
