[Milsurplus] Norden Bomb Sight

The battleship 16 inch 50 caliber round traveled 24 miles and spent 90 seconds in the air. I doubt the winds were the same at various altitudes. Keep in mind the target is moving whereas the bomber target is stationary. Delivering a round on target was just as challenging as dropping a bomb from a plane.

Accuracy from a battleship gun or from a bomber to the target during WW2 was low but you didn't want the enemy to know that for strategic reasons and your population to know for morale reasons.

The bomber drops bombs that travel considerably slower through layers of air that can have many unknown and invisible cross currents and exert major influences on the path. The battleship also has the ability to correct fire if the first rounds are off target. I have never heard about one bomber making a test drop and reporting corrections to the others, if that was even possible. The bomber crews performed increadible feats for the task they had to accomplish, and the hype about the Norden helped inspire them and keep them steadfast.
