The battleship fires projectiles at very high speed through air that is
likely to have the same winds for the entire flight. The bomber drops
bombs that travel considerably slower through layers of air that can
have many unknown and invisible cross currents and exert major
influences on the path. The battleship also has the ability to correct
fire if the first rounds are off target. I have never heard about one
bomber making a test drop and reporting corrections to the others, if
that was even possible. The bomber crews performed increadible feats
for the task they had to accomplish, and the hype about the Norden
helped inspire them and keep them steadfast.
