I concur with Mike Hanz's opinion that this special coilset was created for use in training. That's the first thing that occurred to me,
and I don't know why. Maybe it was kind of a failsafe; the pilot or observer could always plug in this unit and be sure it was on frequency.

The DC-10 crystal holder is a new one to me. Pretty unique package, and I thought I'd seen them all.
