[Milsurplus] TRC-1 and mixed crystals in it

Have been kicking around the idea of trying to do a WW2 type radio link between the coastal defense facility located at Fort Miles Delaware and there restored plotting and control facilities to the northern observation tower located across the bay in New Jersey, also a restored observation tower but operated by a different group.
They have a thing where they do not want anything that's not period correct located in the plotting room and spent many hours rebuilding telephone and intercom systems and the like.  Wanted to try to do something with radio and may try setting up BC-699 with phone patch and try opps on eighty but would much rather something that's more telephone friendly like a TRC-1 system. The TRC radios are not that uncommon but the frequency range places them outside the Ham bands so they as originally built are useless. Perhaps I can modify the output tanks and input for operation in the low end of the two meter band? Or maybe convert them down to six meters. Don't have much concern for them being wide band FM being they will be up in the VHF band and set to an unused set of channels. The fifteen mile or so path across the bay won't be a big obstacle and beams for both six and two are common.
If noting can be worked out with period radios they are leaning towards the option of using IP Telephone extensions and having the physical hardware located in another room but I would think that maybe the Mil Radio community would be able to come up with something better then that.
Anyway it's just an idea and project that's somewhat down on the list right now but all this talk of the TRC-1 got me thinking about it again.

AN/TRC-1 was the first VHF FM radio relay or terminal set. One voice channel in the roughly (the manuals are in the attic) 70-100 MC range. The crystals were originally in FT-241 holders, later called CR-4(*)/U. I would have to check the manuals but have always assumed that the crystals were probably in the roughly 300-500 KC range like those for the BC-604 and BC-684.

The ones for the RT-12/TRC-2 and BC-1306 would be in FT-243 holders. and be between 1000 and 3250 KC.

The 1- and 2-digit channel numbers between 0 and 79 are for the BC-620. The 3-digit channel numbers between 270 and 389 are for the BC-659. Holders should be type FT-243, or CR-6(*)/U.

The CR-8(*)/U holders are for AN/GRC-9 and should be between 1000 and 6000 KC.

Anything marked CR-5(*)/U is for the BC-611.
