Here's a view of another MBM. Serial 50, never issued. I assume the combination of its difficult use plus that fact that began as a Navy game came under increasing
control of the Army in 1945, with the new stations coming on the air issued BC-1306's, condemned the MBM to low production numbers. The suitcase is actually not
very robust, very thin wood with glued on covering. It would likely not last long in a hot humid environment. Not to mention the undesirability of walking around
Manila carrying two such heavy suitcases, one for the radio and one for the power supply or handcrank generator. "Hey, look at me. Look what I got!"
2-12 MHz, 12-20 watts out, CW only. Right hand compartment on this one contains a still-wrapped J-45 key, antenna wire, and spare tubes. Somewhere along the
line, the crystals and a couple repair tools were abstracted from this compartment.
Many years back, Tony Grogan and I wondered why the MBM's wide, flat ( thin depth ) format. We never guessed the reason: so it would fit in a certain size
suitcase.
