I would just add, "civilian airfield there", if in fact a civilian airfield remained in business as a civilian field during the Naval Air Station period.
But I tend to doubt that a Maui civilian airfield at this date would deal with long range aircraft using CW. More likely those large civilian transports
worked CW to Honolulu, and voice only for the jump between there and Maui.
Would there have been a separate Army airfield there, handling long-distance flight? I don't know.
Where are my Pacific airfield lists, I am wondering right now.
I would be surprised if you get anything more than a brush-off from the FCC, but I have been surprised before.

>After reviewing some of the history of Pu'unene, Maui, HI, I am now suspicious that the call KMZR was issued to the control tower at the airfield there.
I have queried the FCC about this.
If I hear anything back from them, I'll post it here.
