"Puʻunēnē is an Unincorporated area in the central part of Maui. Although the land in that area is fairly level, the words Puʻu nēnē mean "goose hill" in. With a population of around 50, Puʻunēnē's primary industry is growing, harvesting and sugarcane. "
About three miles to the south of Puʻunēnē is the site of a former Naval Air Station (1940–1947),
An old runway is now used as a drag strip for Maui Raceway Park."
From Wiki. There was a sugar mill there also, but this would have no need for radio.
But the KMZR is certainly a call sign. What for, I am puzzled by. The N.A.S. would have had an "Nxyz" call.
Did the Army maintain some kind of presence their also?
From https://www.tourmaui.com/world-war-2-history/ :
"The island had the largest Naval Air Station in the world at the time in Puʻunēnē (central Maui) and throughout the war Maui was the training ground for tens of thousands of troops and pilots."
This only talks about troops being trained there as Marines, but - my guess is the Army had a presence there also, either a training facility, or some connection to the Naval
air station. I'm sure you'll eventually figure out more. Nice provenance on that key.
Those Maui scenes of beaches, sunlight, and ocean water warm enough that it won't kill you in a half hour are sure enticing. We have entered the Dark Season here.
( At least, nothing is ever flammable out here. )
